Virtual Reality Apps - 2015

In the second half of 2015 I ran an outreach project, to create a demonstrate 2 virtual reality apps to the public. The Institute of Physics funded the project as part of their 'Public Engagement Grant Scheme'. The apps make use of the Google Cardboard virtual reality headset, which is able to convert smartphones in to a virtual reality headset.

The two apps allow you to explore our solar system and Universe in 3D virtual reality. The apps are available on the Google Play Store to download for free. More information on the apps can be found here.

As part of the project, we have been able to demonstrate the two apps at several high profile events around Wales. We attended the national Welsh Eisteddfod, where we showed the apps to over over 100 people over less than 2 days at the event, receiving very good feedback. Both apps have been translated in to Welsh. We also demonstrated the apps at a local science event, Science Cafe Cardiff, in October 2015.

We would like to thank the Institute of Physics for funding the project. We would also like to thank CeX for supporting the project through the lending of vital equipment for the project. Finally we would like to thank Briztech as our supplier of Google Cardboard headsets for the project.
